Our Story
The GCP story begins during the mid 1990’s in Louisville Kentucky. This is where Gary Mottershead, President of GCP Industrial Products, and then owner of an innovative tire recycling company – Recovery Technologies – was asked an intriguing question:
Was he interested in selling tire-recycling units to China?
Captivated by the opportunity he leaped at the chance. However, after a few visits, Gary realized the Chinese didn’t need the equipment he was selling. But they did need his help. Specifically, how to navigate the unique requirements of the North American sheet rubber marketplace.
Together, Gary and his partners set out to develop a high quality, long lasting sheet rubber material. A material that would be uniform and consistent in quality, roll after roll.
It took Gary and his partners three years before the first roll of rubber finally left the factory floor.
What started off as a narrow product line containing only of commercial SBR, developed into over 4,500 SKUs, 3 brands, production in several continents, and one of the widest offerings of sheet, sponge and foam rubber in the industry.
